A Tribute to 'The Queen of WASC'
15 Apr 2024
The word “legend” is banded around far to often in todays society and not always deservedly so, but to many from WASC in the 1970’s & 1980’s, Liz Titmuss or simply “Mrs T” was their “legend”.
Liz’s work with the club actually started long before the club was formed, as she was on the fund raising committee that helped secure the necessary money, to enable Wellingborough’s Croyland Road swimming pool to be constructed. Not happy with this achievement, Liz then set about constructing the foundations of the club we all know today, and became one of our first, and definitely our most loved head coaches. When the club finally started in April 1970, Liz was there, along with her 3 children, Kay, Nicky and David. Throughout the 1970’s and early 1980’s Liz was a force of nature, volunteering as Head Coach, gala official and in numerous other roles.
In later life, Liz raised over £100,000 for the “Cystic Fibrosis” charity, following her grand daughters CF diagnosis. Despite her fundraising efforts for the club & charity, her determination to build a competitive club, and her years of dedication in numerous club volunteer roles, Liz will best be remembered for her passion, her smile and her huge personality, that affected everyone she met.
Those that knew Liz, were grateful for the fun times they spent with her. We hope this short tribute goes some way to explain the larger than life person Liz was, and the impact she had on WASC and the lives of so many.
Sleep peacefully “Mrs T”.
