Our destination for gala 2 was Ponds Forge, Sheffield; it was the first time that Tom, Connor, Harry, Louis and Bobby had swum there. We were very lucky to have Aaron join us with his knowledge of the building he definitely brought some reassurance.

The first day consisted of 50’s Tom, Harry and Connor all swam faster than their entry time in the 50 Front Crawl. The next event for the swimmers was 50 Fly I truly enjoyed watching Aaron’s mastery of breath control as he swam his race he really has a very strong start. Connor and Bobby both swam their backstroke well Connor finished in 12th position in the 15Yrs Age Group.

After a long day it was time for the swimmers to go home get some rest and some training in before returning to Sheffield the following weekend this time they were joined by Noah, Tyler and Callum and we bought the girls, Imogen and Olivia.

The first event was the mens 200 Freestyle with Tyler and Connor in the 2nd Heat, Tyler in lane 7 and Connor in Lane 3, the friendship between them is lovely but so is the competitiveness they pushed each other to their limits both taking time off their PB. I would safely say my favourite race of the weekend.

The competition between friends did not stop there Olivia and Imogen were in the same heat in the 100 backstroke again making the girls swim faster than they had swum it at Counties. The friendship and support to each other was lovely to see after the races.

I also enjoyed watching Bobby swimming both his 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke events his entry time for his 200 backstroke was 2:31.49 and he swam it in 2:29.85 a great PB. I also felt very proud of him as I have witnessed the grit and determination, he has put into training so I was really pleased to see it pay off. Noah swam his 100 breaststroke very well knocking a second off his long course time and that was without his brotherly rivalry!

I can’t finish this write up without mentioning Louis and his 200 Fly he stayed focused and swam it really well so well he had to swim it again because Louis got into the finals it was wonderful to see Wellingborough on the board and hear Matthew call out his name whilst he stood nervously waiting on the blocks.

A thank you to Matt and Hervé helping out on poolside should also not go unmentioned. Commiserations to Bethany, Loïc and Yogi who although they all qualified for several events had to withdraw due to injuries.
